The Boston Red Sox have made a significant trade in hopes of earning a playoff appearance after a one year hiatus. The team reportedly acquired infielder Aaron Hill from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for two prospects.
Hill, 34, was hitting at a .283 clip with a .359 on-base percentage in 78 games at the time of the deal, adding eight homers and 29 RBI in the process.
He will most likely be a part of a platoon with Travis Shaw at third base in Boston.
Heading to Milwaukee in the deal are right-hander Aaron Wilkerson and second baseman Wendell Rijo.
Wilkerson, 27, posted a 2.14 ERA with a 1.02 WHIP and 102 strikeouts in 92.1 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season. He'll likely join the Brewers' big league club immediately. Meanwhile, Rijo is a 20-year-old Dominican prospect that was playing in Double-A at the time of the trade.
