On the day following the trade deadline, the Atlanta Braves have promoted top prospect Ozzie Albies and have him in the lineup playing second and betting seventh against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Albies, 20, entered the season as Atlanta's second-best prospect behind outfielder Ronald Acuna. He was hitting at a .285 clip with a .771 OPS in Triple-A at the time of the promotion.
A five-tool player, Albies was actually graded out as the 11th-best prospect around baseball this past spring. He was mentioned in potential trade scenarios for Sonny Gray, who was just sent to the New York Yankees from the Oakland Athletics.
It will definitely be interesting to see how Albies performs early in his career.
On a related noted, Atlanta also promoted starting pitcher Lucas Sims, who will make his Major League debut and start against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday.
Sims, 23, graded out as the organization's 19th-best prospect following a disastrous 2016 campaign. But he's pitched well in the minors this year, throwing to a 7-4 record with a 3.75 ERA and 1.14 WHIP while striking out 132 batters across 117.2 innings in Triple-A.
