While throughout his short career the number of days of rest hasn’t made a monster difference in Tanaka’s numbers, that is not the case this season. On four days rest Tanaka owns a 4.72 ERA in 38.1 innings while allowing six homeruns and striking. However, when you look at Tanaka with five days of rest his numbers are CY Young worthy. In 32.2 innings on five days rest Tanaka owns a 1.26 ERA with just one homerun allowed and has 27 strikeouts. Tonight, Tanaka will pitch on five days rest, and he faces a White Sox team that has been sporadic and not very good on offense this season. The White Sox rank 22nd in runs this season, 18th in average, and 23rd in slugging percentage, which means this is exactly the type of lineup that Tanaka can dominate with that extra day of rest.
