It's Saturday baseball and after nearly a full two weeks of games, it means many regular starters are receiving a day off to rest. So, here the daily inactives report will give you a list of all the players who won't be in today's lineup and the fantasy impact of who will be taking their place in the lineup. Check back here as the list will continuosly be updated.
Adam Duvall, Outfielder, Cincinnati Reds
Duvall, who has played in 10 consecutive games, will receive the day off and give way to Scott Schebler. Facing Zach Davies in Great American Ballpark, it's unfortunate to lose out on Duvall given his strong start to the year with a .287 batting average and three home runs.
Schebler is five-for-31 to start the season, though he does have two home runs. Given Davies is a groundball pitcher, this isn't the type of matchup we're looking for that would make Schebler a DFS value play.
Adam Eaton, Outfielder, Washington Nationals
Eaton will receive the day off after he started the team's first 10 games. This season, Eaton owns a .297 batting average with one home run, nine walks, two stolen bases and nine runs scored. His absence from the lineup opens the door for Michael Taylor to slide into center field for a spot start, his first start of the season.
Facing Jeremy Hellickson, who has allowed just seven hits to 39 batters faced this season, makes for a tough matchup for Taylor. But given his fantasy combo upside to steal bases and hit for power, we're willing to chance it as an extreme value play in a few DFS, GPP lineups. It also helps that as a free swinger, he faces a pitcher who has an 88.1 contact rate so far this season.
Jayson Werth, Outfielder, Washington Nationals
It's a major rest day for the Nationals as Werth joins Eaton on the bench today. Werth is off to an excellent start this season with a .306 batting average, three home runs and seven RBIs through his first 10 starts. A power bat that fantasy owners could rely on in the thick of the Nationals' lineup, they'll have to look elsewhere today.
With Werth in the dugout, Chris Heisey steps into left field for the start. Heisey is off the fantasy radar as he just doesn't offer enough upside for GPP value throws and there is little to no floor that could make him a cash-game play.
Aaron Judge, Outfielder, New York Yankees
While Judge's performance at the plate has been productive to start the season, he finds himself on the bench for Saturday's game with Aaron Hicks taking his spot in the lineup. Judge's power bat, which has already hit three home runs this season, will be available off the bench late in the game if the Yankees need it.
Aaron Hicks earned another start thanks to his hot start to the season. In 16 at bats, the 27-year-old already has two home runs, five hits and five RBIs. Normally a good value play, a matchup against ace Carlos Martinez could make this matchup a little tougher and push us to look elsewhere for value plays in the outfield.
Devon Travis, Second Base, Toronto Blue Jays
A cold start to the season leads to a day off for Toronto's young second baseman. The 26-year-old has just four hits, all singles, in 38 at bats this season and will receiving his second day off in 11 games.
In his absence Ryan Goins slides into second base and the bottom of Toronto's lineup in a matchup against youngster Alec Asherr. While this would typically be a spot to take advantage of a low-end rookie making his debut, Goins career .224 batting average keeps him from any fantasy consideration.
Brian Dozier, Second Base, Minnesota Twins
Such is the nature with fantasy baseball sometimes, an excellent matchup turns into a missed opportunity. Dozier, a favorite for DFS today, finds himself resting on the bench for the first time this season. Dozier is off to a strong start this season with a .275 batting average and while he has just one home run, he leads baseball with five stolen bases.
Eduardo Escobar takes his spot defensively and will bat sixth in Minnesota's lineup. Facing lefty Jose Quintana favors Escobar's career splits as he has performed well against southpaws over his career with a .278 batting average and 105 wRC+. But given Quintana's status as an upper echelon pitcher, we can avoid Escobar as a value infielder for DFS today.
Gregory Polanco, Outfielder, Pittsburgh Pirates
Polanco was slated to start in Saturday's game but the team scratched him with discomfort in his right groin. He reportedly suffered the discomfort sometime during yesterday's game, but at this point it's considered minor and he is day-to-day.
With Polanco sidelined, Alen Hanson will take his spot in left field. Hansen is not known for his bat and hitting near the bottom of the lineup and facing Jake Arrieta, he should be avoided in DFS.
Matt Holliday, Designated Hitter, New York Yankees
An alarming note for fantasy owners came on Saturday morning with Holliday, who has a history of back issues keeping him out of the lineup, scratched for today's game with lower back discomfort. He's day-to-day for now, but given his history, New York will play this very cautiously and he could miss more than one game.
Chris Carter will fill the DH spot in his absence and face Martinez. Carter offers plenty of power upside, but is a major swing-and-miss threat, so he should probably be avoided in DFS with better values at first base available.
Josh Reddick, Outfielder, Houston Astros
With the Houston Astros facing left-hander Sean Manaea on Saturday, Reddick finds himself on the bench. A career .218 hitter against southpaws, this will be a common occurence this season that fantasy owners should be aware of. Houston is deep in the outfield, so it shouldn't be too surprising for this to happen and him to even get the occasional rest day versus righties.
Jake Marisnick will start in his place, but his career numbers aren't that much better versus lefties. In 371 plate appearances against left-handed pitchers, Marisnick carries a .227 batting average and 98 strikeouts. With these numbers in mind, Marisnick is off the DFS radar today.
Brandon Belt, First Base, San Francisco Giants
Facing a prime matchup against Tyler Chatwood, Belt finds himself on the bench for Saturday's game. Belt, who has just nine hits in 47 at bats this season but with three home runs and nine walks, will give up the first base spot to Conor Gillaspie.
THere just isn't much fantasy appeal with Gillaspie. THe game is in pitcher-friendly AT&T Park, he won't be near the top of the lineup and his career numbers just don't give enough confidence to warrant a speculative play in any DFS lineups.
Travis d'Arnaud, Catcher, New York Mets
For the second game in a row, d'Arnaud finds himself out of the Mets' lineup. It's worth noting that d'Arnaud caught the entirety of New York's 16-inning win on Thursday, so it's possible given his injury history the team opted to play it safe and give him extended rest. Rene Rivera will start for the second night in a row and while it's a solid matchip for New York, he's far off the DFS radar.
Jay Bruce, Outfielder, New York Mets
Bruce will join d'Arnaud on the bench for Saturday's evening game against the Miami Marlins. It marks Bruce's first time on the bench this season after a scorching hot bat kept him in the lineup for the first two weeks. Bruce is second on the team with four home runs, has eight RBIs and an outstanding .392 on-base percentage. His absence will be a blow for fantasy owners in season-long leagues.
Juan Lagares will take Bruce's spot in the lineup, with Curtis Granderson sliding over the corner to open up center field for Lagares. A .259/.298/.366 slash line over his career, you can safely ignore Lagares in DFS.
