Many of you probably have never played in an auction fantasy baseball league, but it is quite entertaining and involves a ton of strategy. Here is the first mock draft auction style.
With the first two picks, I decided to fork up some big money for Miguel Cabrera and Mike Trout. The third player was Hanley Ramirez. Each of these players are the best at their position, and each position lacks top-heavy talent. A bit of a scarcity theory was my strategy. Here is how the rest of the mock draft filled out.
C Evan Gattis $1
1B Mark Teixeira $2
2B Matt Carpenter $16
3B Miguel Cabrera $46
SS Hanley Ramirez $26
MI Jed Lowrie $6
CI Ryan Howard $1
OF Mike Trout $46
OF Matt Kemp $16
OF Hunter Pence $16
OF Wil Myers $15
OF Mark Trumbo $12
UTIL Michael Brantley $1
P Jered Weaver $11
P Matt Moore $7
P Jon Lester $6
P Johnny Cueto $4
P Clay Buchholz $4
P Justin Masterson $4
P Chris Archer $2
P Ivan Nova $2
P Alex Wood $1
BN Nelson Cruz $6
BN Billy Hamilton $8
BN Taijuan Walker $1
All in all, this draft was very successful considering a lot of money was used early on. It shows how deep pitching is, since some of the better pitchers were available for cheap later in the draft. Keep this strategy in mind when your auction draft day comes. Don't forget to try your own mock draft with eDraft's tool.
