Fantasy Baseball Daily 4.1.14

Day two of fantasy baseball daily is ready to go.  If you read yesterday’s piece, the “good value” picks I provided did exceptionally well for the value that they were placed at.  Hopefully you took some of that advice and used it in your daily plays because it definitely would have helped you succeed.  There are nine baseball games today and the only teams to not have played a game yet are the New York Yankees and the Houston Astros who play against each other tonight.

We bring you fantasy daily picks for FanDuel.com and if you haven’t signed up yet, be sure to follow this link http://eDraft.com/FanDuel/MLB to receive a 100% deposit bonus on your initial deposit.  This is an amazing deal that you can’t miss so be sure to check it out and make yourself some extra cash.  The cap for FanDuel is $35,000 with only one player at each position like a real MLB lineup (with the exception of outfielders where you can start any three players that are outfield eligible.)

The scoring system for FanDuel is as follows:

Hitters: Single = 1pt, Double = 2pts, Triple = 3pts, Homerun = 4pts, RBI = 1pt, Run = 1pt, Walk = 1pt,
Stolen Base = 2pts, Hit By Pitch = 1, Out (calculated as at bats - hits) = -.25pt
Pitchers: Win = 4pts, Earned Run = -1pt, Strike Out = 1pt, Innings Pitched = 1pt

Good Value Players

Pitcher

C.J. Wilson, Angels, $6,800: When it comes to daily fantasy baseball you need a pitcher who you are confident in that will get the win.  That’s a big four points that will go a long way in helping you win your matchup.  Wilson isn’t exactly a deep sleeper but his value at $6,800 cannot be missed.  The Angels lost one yesterday to the Dodgers and you can bet they will not want to fall two in a row.  Wilson will be on his game and rack up at least seven strikeouts and hopefully the win.

Catcher

Carlos Ruiz, Phillies, $3,100: Ruiz had a successful opening day against the Rangers by getting on base three times (one hit, two walks) and scored three runs.  There was plenty of hitting by both teams yesterday and it will most likely continue into today.  Ruiz has a favorable matchup as he is right handed and Martin Perez is left handed.  Don’t be surprised to see Ruiz get a hit and drive in a run or two.

First Base

Mark Teixeira, Yankees, $3,500: Today is the Yankees opening day and lucky for them, they play the Houston Astros, the worst team of 2013.  The Yankees have plenty of speed and power in their lineup so for this series, expect to see a lot of Yankees on my list.  Yes Tex says he is worried about his surgically repaired wrist and tries to protect it too much and yes it is true that he always starts the season cold.  This selection is based primarily on the fact that he is matching up against the Astros.  If Teixeira doesn’t get more than two hits in this series, don’t expect to see him on this list again for a while.

Second Base

Scooter Gennett, Brewers, $2,800: Gennett had a successful opening day going two for three but didn’t score any runs or hit any RBI’s.  That is perfectly fine though because any type of points score in daily fantasy is good.  It is better than getting zero points or going in the negative.  Gennett isn’t in the best matchup situation against Alex Wood but if you want that long shot player who is cheap, he is your man.

Third Base

David Freese, Angels, $2,900: In yesterday’s home opener, Freese went hitless with two strikeouts.  You may wonder why I have him selected him on my list today.  Chances are he will not go hitless through the first two games of the season.  He is matched up against Erasmo Ramirez who had a 4.98 ERA last season and Freese is a .275 hitter the past three years against right handers.  Chances are Freese will get on base, in turn, awarding you points.

Shortstop

Dee Gordon, Dodgers, $2,600: Gordon is a registered shortstop but is playing second base for the Dodgers since Hanley Ramirez has the shortstop position held down.  Gordon faces a pitcher who struggled all last season in Ian Kennedy and had an ERA close to 5.0.  Kennedy looks to rebound after a poor season but Gordon and the Dodgers have a good chance in spoiling that early.  He didn’t record a hit yesterday but was able to draw a walk and scored the Dodgers only run in their opening night loss.

Outfield

Carl Crawford, Dodgers, $3,100: I am picking Crawford here pretty much for the same reason I picked Dee Gordon.  The powerful Dodgers lineup should have a field day against Ian Kennedy.  Not to mention that Crawford is EXTREMELY undervalued with a price of $3,100.  He is a must play for tonight’s game.

My Lineup: $35,000 Cap

Pitcher – C.J. Wilson, Angels, $6,800

Catcher Jonathan Lucroy, Brewers, $3,400: In yesterday’s opening day Lucroy went two for three with a stolen base.  Consistent hitting catchers are hard to find and the ones that are available are priced too high like Buster Posey.  Lucroy faces a left-handed pitcher which favors him since he bats a .330 against them.  If you have the extra cash to spend to upgrade a position, he has the best bang for your buck.

First Base – Mark Teixeira, Yankees, $3,500

Second BaseJedd Gyorko, Padres, $3,200: Even though Gyorko is in a tough matchup against Zack Greinke, I still like his chances to perform well.  Greinke’s numbers are hard to argue against but I personally believe he is overrated.  Gyorko has a higher average and on-base percentage against left-handed pitchers so he can do some good tonight.

Third Base – David Freese, Angels, $2,900

Shortstop – Dee Gordon, Dodgers, $2,600

Outfield – Carl Crawford, Dodgers, $3,100

OutfieldHunter Pence, Giants, $4,000: Pence is one of the better outfielders in the game.  He has a higher price but it is worth picking him up on your team if you have the extra cap space.  He faces pitcher Wade Miley tonight who had a decent first start in Australia going five innings with eight strikeouts but giving up three runs in that span.

OutfieldMike Trout, Angels, $5,500:  With all of the low budget picks I added to my roster, I was able to add the best outfielder in the game to my roster.  Yes $5,500 is a ton of money but if you have it, spend it.  Nothing is guaranteed but Trout is almost a sure thing to produce hits, runs, RBI’s and stolen bases.  He is worth the investment and has the best chance to do well for your daily fantasy roster.
