Fantasy Baseball Daily 4.2.14

Just like it is hit or miss in baseball, it is hit or miss in fantasy daily leagues.  We started off great on Monday with great picks for you and yesterday only a couple players actually came through.  Fortunately today is a new day with exciting baseball to watch as early as 1:08 PM Eastern Time.  There are 16 games total today so there is a lot of players to consider.

We bring you fantasy daily picks for FanDuel.com and if you haven’t signed up yet, be sure to follow this link http://eDraft.com/FanDuel/MLB to receive a 100% deposit bonus on your initial deposit.  This is an amazing deal that you can’t miss so be sure to check it out and make yourself some extra cash.  The cap for FanDuel is $35,000 with only one player at each position like a real MLB lineup (with the exception of outfielders where you can start any three players that are outfield eligible.)

The scoring system for FanDuel is as follows:

Hitters: Single = 1pt, Double = 2pts, Triple = 3pts, Homerun = 4pts, RBI = 1pt, Run = 1pt, Walk = 1pt,
Stolen Base = 2pts, Hit By Pitch = 1, Out (calculated as at bats - hits) = -.25pt
Pitchers: Win = 4pts, Earned Run = -1pt, Strike Out = 1pt, Innings Pitched = 1pt

Good Value Players

Pitcher

Robbie Ross, Rangers, $4,300: Normally a relief pitcher, Ross will get his first action of the season starting against the Phillies.  I believe that all that offense in the first game of this season was a once in a blue moon type of deal for the Phillies.  They came back down to earth only scoring two runs of off eight hits.  Ross is a bit of a reach but any pitcher against the Phillies has a chance to do well.  Kyle Kendrick is the opposing pitcher who had an ERA at 4.70 last year.  Expect the Rangers to score early and cementing the win for Ross.

Catcher

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Marlins, $3,000: The Rockies have Jordan Lyles in place to start for Tyler Chatwood who is likely headed for a DL stint.  Lyles has posted an ERA over 5.00 in his past three seasons with the Astros.  Saltalamacchia is a cheap option with great upside.  He had a double with an RBI in yesterday’s game and will likely see the same production today.

First Base

Justin Morneau, Rockies, $3,200: Morneau has yet to hit more than a single, score a run, or hit an RBI.  He is still getting on base though and that’s what matters.  Once he can get some runners in scoring position he will have a good chance of hitting them in, even if he only hits singles.  I fully expect Morneau to continue his hitting ways and get on base whatever way he can and giving us daily fantasy players some points.

Second Base

Neil Walker, Pirates, $3,100: In the season opener, Walker was the only player to score a run and it was the game winning homerun he hit in extra innings.  He and the Pirates matchup against pitcher Edwin Jackson for the Cubs who had a very high ERA and WHIP last season which also continued into spring training this year.  Walker is cheap and has a great chance to produce today.

Third Base

Chase Headley, Padres, $3,300: Headley has yet to record a hit this season and makes you wonder why he is a good option to choose.  He faces pitcher Dan Haren who had quite a high ERA last year at 4.67 and Headley hits much better against right handed pitchers.  Over the past three years he has 32 homeruns and bats a .272 against them.  Headley is a high risk high reward type of player and I predict he will at least record his first hit today.

Shortstop

Xander Bogaerts, Red Sox, $3,100: The Red Sox play their second game of the season today against the Orioles.  Bogaerts is on a hitting streak going back to March 22nd in spring training.  He has the speed to leg out a double and steal a base when told so.  He may not have the power of some other shortstops in the game but he will get on base and make things happen.  He is as good as any other shortstop which is why I chose him at such a low price.

Outfield

Starling Marte, Pirates, $3,700: I’m choosing Marte for the same reasons I’m choosing Neil Walker.  Marte is a solid all around hitter and a can steal bases.  Edwin Jackson pitching gives the whole Pirates roster worth starting.

My Lineup: $35,000 Cap

Pitcher – Robbie Ross, Rangers, $4,300

Catcher – Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Marlins, $3,000

First BasePrince Fielder, Rangers, $4,300: The Phillies are starting one of the worst pitchers in their rotation (in my opinion) in Kyle Kendrick.  His high ERA will surely be exposed once again today and Fielder will hit bombs.  He should at least…

Second Base – Neil Walker, Pirates, $3,100

Third BaseEvan Longoria, Rays, $4,200: Low spending in other positions means you can afford some star players in your rotation.  Longoria is one of the best pure hitters in the game so if you have the money to spend, I suggest you nab him.  He faces a high ERA pitcher in Mark Buehrle and will see some good opportunities to drive in some runs.

Shortstop – Xander Bogaerts, Red Sox, $3,100

Outfield – Starling Marte, Pirates, $3,700

Outfield Giancarlo Stanton, Marlins, $4,600: In just the first two games, Stanton has posted over three daily fantasy points in each of them.  That may not seem like a lot but if you are playing in FanDuel’s daily leagues, you will know that anything over one is good production.  Stanton faces Jordan Lyles and will surely see some opportunities to score us some quality fantasy points.

Outfield Andrew McCutchen, Pirates, $4,600: See Starling Marte and Neil Walker.
