My Value Picks
Pitcher
James Paxton, Mariners, $5,500: Despite limited action due to a long stay on the disabled list Paxton has still been a very dominant pitcher for the Mariners. He owns a 2.20 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP with nearly a strikeout per inning ratio. He squares off against the Rangers tonight which surprisingly has been a good matchup for pitchers this year with only Adrian Beltre being the only real threat in their lineup. Now with Shin-Soo Choo lost for the year a Rangers lineup that was only ranked 20th in runs scored got much weaker.
Catcher
Michael McKenry, Rockies, $3,200: McKenry has been a solid contributor for the Rockies as their backup this season. He’s batting an impressive .339 with five homeruns and may be running into full time catching duties with the wrist injury Wilin Rosario. He has a tough matchup against Madison Bumgarner but when you are batting in the Rockies lineup there is always potential for a big game.
First Base
Adam Lind, Blue Jays, $2,800: Lind hasn’t been exactly lighting it up since coming off the disabled list but he does currently have a three game hitting streak and with consistent at bats coming his way with a string of right handers on the mound, Lind should find himself locked in again in no time. The Blue Jays lineup is a potent one and with Lind batting in the middle of it the RBI opportunities are plenty which is going to lead to positive results for Lind.
Second Base
Dee Gordon, Dodgers, $3,100: Gordon just had a great series against the Mets going 6-13 with three runs scored, and two RBI. Gordon has slowed up on the base paths of late but still has 57 on the season and facing Diamondbacks pitching should lead ot plenty of hits of stolen base opportunities for Gordon tonight.
Third Base
Pablo Sandoval, Giants, $3,100: The Panda is having a very good season in his contract year for the Giants batting .289with 57 runs scored and 59 RBI to go along with 14 homeruns which matches his total from all of last season, and a seven game hitting streak. Next up is Jorge De La Rosa who is an average pitcher at best. He owns a 4.21 ERA but his ERA is nearly a run and a half higher on the road than at Coors Field surprisingly. Pablo and the rest of the lineup should have a good day at the plate tomorrow providing plenty of offense for daily players.
Short Stop
Jhonny Peralta, Cardinals, $3,100: Peralta has been a changed man over the last 30 days. He is batting .300 with four homeruns, 12 runs scored, and 15 RBI which is great production out of the shortstop position. He won’t have it easy tomorrow with the Pirates top pitcher on the mound in Gerrit Cole but when your hot you find a way to get a hit even against the best of pitchers.
Outfield
Travis Snider, Pirates, $2,900: With his great play lately Snider has earned himself a starting spot in the Pirates outfield. He has been so good in fact that the Pirates sent down their highly touted outfield prospect Gregory Polanco. Over the last 30 days Snider is batting .301 with 5 homeruns, 12 runs scored and 15 RBI. For his price and recent play at the plate, it’s tough to find a better value outfielder in the game right now.
