My Good Value Plays

Pitcher
Tyson Ross, Padres, $6,500:
Ross is having a very nice season so far in 2014.  He carries a 2.97 ERA which is very good and is nearly striking out a batter per inning.  At first glance a start against the White Sox does not look like a pretty one but they are without Jose Abreu who has been a major part of their offense.  Before surrendering four runs to the Diamondbacks last time out Ross was on a roll having surrendered exactly one run in four consecutive outings.  Look for Ross to get right back into the groove of things are provide another quality outing.

Catcher
Evan Gattis, Braves, $3,100:
Gattis is proving that the power displayed last year was no fluke with the ten homeruns that he has so far this year.  Next up for Gattis is a matchup against Jacob Turner who has given up at least four runs in four of his last six starts en route to owning a 5.35 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP.  Turner should provide little resistance to this streaky lineup as Gattis looks to go deep for the eleventh time this year.

First Base
Adam Lind, Blue Jays, $3,300:
Lind is having a fine campaign with a fantastic .341 batting average.  He only has three homeruns on the year but that is in part to only having 88 at bats after suffering a back injury.  Lind is going good at the plate right now for a hot Blue Jays team that is going to leave him with plenty of RBI chances and plenty of runs scored.

Second Base
Brandon Phillips, Reds, $2,900:
This year Phillips has not been the all star second baseman that everyone has grown accustomed to seeing.  He is only batting .271 with four homeruns.  A good way to turn the season around though is a game against Brandon McCarthy and his .487 ERA.  If ever there was a game that should spark a players bat it is one against a below average pitcher who when he leaves the game puts it in the hands of a below average bullpen.

Third Base
Conor Gillaspie, White Sox, $3,000:
Gillaspie has been the model of consistency in 2014.  He is batting .360 with a six game hitting streak and has hit safely in ten of his last eleven games.  He has also recorded three runs and three RBI in his last five games while also getting multiple hits in three of those games that included a four for four performance.  Without Abreu in the lineup, when the White Sox generate offense this guy has generally been a part of it and has earned his spot in daily lineups.

Short Stop
Jean Segura, Brewers, $2,900:
Segura is finally heating up at the plate and is looking more like the player that we saw from the first half of last season.  Segura has hit safely in six of his last eight games, and he has at least two hit in every one of those games.  He even has nine runs scored during that span as he looks a lot more comfortable at the plate.  The matchup isn’t a great one against Jason Hammel but when a player is this hot, and has this small of a cap hit it is hard not to start him.

Outfield
Carlos Quentin, Padres, $2,800:
Quentin has been very good at the plate since coming off of the disabled list.  He is batting .364 with two homeruns and six RBI in only 22 at bats.  He has an eight game hitting streak which has seen him account for all of his counting stats this year.  Quentin has always had above average pop when he is on the field and with a game in Chicago he will have a good chance to display his power once again.
