One can argue that an underachieving Pittsburgh Pirates ball club has finally managed to put a string of wins on the board due to the help of their emerging young star, Gregory Polanco.  The 22-year-old outfielder has sparked the top of the Pirates lineup and has been able to set the table for the likes of Andrew McCutchen since his promotion to the big leagues. Polanco may very well be the final piece to the puzzle that is your fantasy baseball team.

Chances are you’re the owner of an outfielder whom you thought would have performed better than he has to this point of the season when you first drafted him. We will find ourselves running into players such as Austin Jackson and maybe even a Starling Marte, a player who’s breakout season in 2013 is pretty much all than forgotten due to his poor showing in 2014 thus far. The truth is, Polanco loves making contact with the baseball, so your team is more apt to benefit from him on a daily basis then say someone like Curtis Granderson.

At this point of the season, your fantasy team could probably use whatever it can get, especially if you have a weak link as part of your outfield. If you or someone doesn’t have him already, it is imperative that you do your best to pickup Polanco and slot him into your starting lineup. The stats he has managed to put up over his first nine games in the majors will most definitely benefit your fantasy team, just as it has the Pirates.

In just nine games this season, Polanco is enjoying a very solid debut. He owns a very impressive .378/.417/.467 batting line to go along with one home run, a double, six RBI and nine runs scored. If the Pirates are able to go on a run and climb the National League Central standings at some point during the season, Polanco’s presence on both the Pirates and your fantasy team will be felt in a matter of no time.

Being productive at the plate is exactly what the young Polanco thrives on, and while so many rookies come and go throughout the season, it can’t be said for all that their success has come easy. Polanco hasn’t been in the majors for that long at all, but if you’re desperate to make a move, just like the Pirates were, acquiring Polanco can only help you in the long run, and perhaps in the near future as well.
