If you are one of the many owners who missed out on drafting a top tier shortstop, you are probably hurting at that position right now.  Luckily for you there’s a guy by the name of Chris Owings who in all likelihood is a free agent in your fantasy league.  

Owings made a solid debut last season by batting .291 in 20 games played, and hasn’t missed a beat coming into this season with a .367 batting average.  

Depending on the type of league you are in Owings is certainly worth picking up out of free agency.  I wouldn’t recommend him in a points or a rotisserie league due to the fact that he’s not going to provide you with power or RBI’s making him more of a liability in those formats.  Owings is a singles hitter with slightly above average speed.  He has the green light on the base paths and should be able to provide a good number of stolen bases, and he already has three steals in only nine games.  

For now his run scoring is taking a bit of a hit due to the fact that he’s batting seventh in the lineup.  As long as Owings keeps hitting the ball he should have the chance to move up in the lineup.  Especially if leadoff man A.J. Pollock is unable to turn things around as he is only batting .167 on the young season.

If Owings is available I would look to add him to your team as he seems to be a cheap source of runs, steals, and batting average.
