Fantasy Baseball Profile: Adam Jones

One of the best outfielders today, Adam Jones has developed into the superstar player that many envisioned he would be when he was traded  to the Orioles from the Mariners years ago.  With his consistent play over the years Jones has cemented himself as a top five outfielder.

Durability has not been an issue for Jones as he’s played in at least 149 games since 2010 and 160 and 162 games respectively in the last two seasons.

Camden Yards is a strong hitters park especially for a right hander as the dimensions go from 333ft down the left field line to only 364ft in left center which is extremely small.  Also, by not being a dead pull hitter, Jones is capable of using the right side of the field which is 318ft down the line helping to provide a slight power boost during the home games.

Jones is one of the few players in fantasy baseball that can contribute to your team in all facets of the game.  He hits for good power and average, steals his fair share of bags as well as scoring and driving in plenty of runs.  While he’s not a .300 hitter over the past four seasons Jones is batting .285 which is plenty good enough to help out your team especially when it’s combined with the 30 plus homeruns that he is going to hit.  Hitting in the middle of this potent Baltimore Orioles offense should help Jones keep up the with career high number of RBI he set last year.

Besides the power numbers, Jones is capable of putting up great run scoring numbers as he’s scored over 100 runs in two consecutive seasons.  Jones will also finish the season with adequate steal numbers as he’s had double digit steals in all but one season as a starter, although he has yet to reach the 20 steal mark so temper your expectations there.

Due to the fact that Jones is an outfielder you will likely be able to get his skills in the second round or if you are lucky possibly all the way in the third.  Due to the fact that he is an outfielder I would strongly urge you not take him in the first round as it an extremely deep position that’s full of talent.  Jones is right in the middle of his prime years and is poised for another huge season.

2014 Projections: .287 AVG, 101 Runs, 35 HR, 107 RBI, 14 steals
