Fantasy Baseball: Sell High on Melky Cabrera

The Melk Man is tearing it up for his Toronto Blue Jays this season. In fact, outfielder Melky Cabrera has already doubled his home run total from 2013...despite playing 50 less games.

We are about a month and a half into the season, and currently leads all M. Cabreras in home runs. Detroit's Miguel Cabrera has five while Melky has six.

But, you guessed it, the big numbers do not end there for Melky. He has also driven in sixteen runs, stolen four bases, scored 26 runs and owns a .333 batting average. Now those are some great stats for any fantasy owner.

Cabrera also put up some great numbers in the 2012 season for his fantasy baseball owners, including yours truly. That year, he hit .346 with eleven homers, 60 RBI and thirteen stolen bases in 113 games...until he was handed a hefty 50-game suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs.

Go figure.

Cabrera has hit double digits in the home run column three times in his career with thirteen in 2009, eighteen in 2011 and the aforementioned eleven in 2012. It is unclear whether or not he was using PEDs during those seasons, so those numbers may be a little artificially enhanced. Or they may not. Who knows?

Nevertheless, Cabrera is a career .286 hitter. Not bad right? Now take out his PED season of 2012 and that number dips all the way down to (drum roll please)... .278.

Basically, a clean Melky Cabrera is a career .278 hitter. At best. Still not a bad number but nowhere close to the .333 he is hitting so far this season.

You can definitely expect him to slow down his pace, big time. Trade him now while his numbers are up, get a good return and see if you can get any of your opponents to bite.
