The Kansas City Royals took another step to improve and change their lineup for the 2017 season on Sunday, as the team is close to a deal with Brandon Moss. The news was first reported by ESPN's Jim Bowden.
Moss started the season off strong, putting up strong numbers on his way to a big contract in free agency. Through his first 97 games, Moss hit 25 home runs with a 143 wRC+ and .386 wOBA up until Aug. 26, then the wheels fell off. In his final 118 plate appearances, Moss had just 10 hits with a 32.2 percent strikeout rate and a -8 wRC+, he was the worst hitter in baseball.
As a result, his market sunk to where he is now, but Kansas City is a good landing spot for him. Moss can alternate between designated hitter and right field when the Royals face right-handed pitchers, who he hits for the most power against. Moss should see enough at bats this season to put up 18-22 home runs, but a low batting average and low RBI and run totals will keep him at the very, very low end of the fantasy radar.
