Fantasy Impact of Adam Eaton Trade to the Washington Nationals

The Chicago White Sox pulled off their second blockbuster in as many days, sending outfielder Adam Eaton to the Washington Nationals for three top pitching prospects.

We'll surely hit on what Chicago was able to add here, but the addition of Eaton was absolutely huge for the Nationals.

Eaton, 28, put up one of the 10-highest WARS in baseball last season, with Baseball Reference having that a number at 5.9.

At the plate, Eaton hit .289 with 14 homers, 59 RBI, 14 stolen bases and a league-leading nine triples. The five-tool player also .362 on-base percentage and .790 OPS.

Playing either center or right field throughout his career, Eaton will slot into one of those two positions while batting near the top of the Nationals' lineup. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Bryce Harper remain in left field with youn phenom Trea Turner taking over at right field. That would leave Eaton as the every-day center fielder in Washington.

With a career .337 BAbip, Eaton should benefit from being part of a better lineup in Washington. His likely spot in the lineup will likely be leadoff, enabling the veteran to get a ton of pitches to hit.

As it relates to what Chicago was able to add in this blockbuster, it picked up one of the top-three prospects in all of baseball in the form of Lucas Giolito, who posted a 6-5 record with a 2.97 ERA and a K/9 rate of 9.1 between Double-A and Triple-A last season. He'll likely start the season as a starter in the White Sox' rotation.

Fellow top prospect Reynaldo Lopez and 2015 first-round pick Dane Dunning, both pitchers, are also headed to the ChiSox in the deal.
