On the heels of signing Josh Reddick earlier in the offseason, the Houston Astros have reportedly brought back Carlos Beltran on a one-year, $16 million contract.
Beltran, 39, played in Houston for part of the 2004 season, helping the team to the World Series in the process. He's coming off a solid 2016 season that saw him hit 29 homers and drive in 93 runs while hitting .295 in between the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers.
Beltran figures to be the Astros' everyday designated hitter, a position he's split with still playing the outfield at times during the latter stages of his career. Beltran is a career .240 hitters with 12 homers and 35 RBI in 88 games at Minute Maid Park. That should be somewhat concerning to people looking to rely on him as a fantasy option heading into the 2017 season.
Though, as a switch hitter and with a .280-plus average against lefties and righties, Beltran won't be handcuffed in that regard. This makes him a viable every-day option in your lineups and a decent DFS play.
