Fantasy Impact of the A's Signing Rajai Davis

2016 Postseason hero Rajai Davis is leaving the Cleveland Indians and returning to the Bay Area. Davis has inked a one-year, $6 million deal and will likely be a full-time starter in Oakland's outfield this coming season.

Davis, 36, posted a .249 average with a career high 12 homers and 48 RBI in 134 games for the Indians last season. He also led the American League with 43 stolen bases while recording 23 doubles.

These aren't tremendous numbers in a vacuum, but they tell us a story of a veteran that was darn good across the statistical board with the Indians in 2016. However, his .306 on-base percentage and 106 strikeouts should be of a concern.

In terms of year-long deeper leagues, Davis will definitely be a rosterable option. The righty is hittin at a .256 clip with a .302 BABip in his career against pitchers that toe that side of the rubber. This means he's not simply limited to going up against lefties for his new team. With a need for an every-day outfielder, the A's made it clear that Davis will likely be given that opportunity more often than not.

Davis made his first real impact in the Majors as a member of the A's from 2008-10, putting up a stellar 2010 campaign that saw him hit .284 with 50 steals. He's also a career .277 hitter with a tremendous .330 BABip in his career at Oakland Coliseum. Making him a more dynamic under-the-radar option is the fact that Davis is now playing in an American League West with less-than-stellar starting pitching rotations. That should also be taken into account here.
