Following a collision on a slide in Sunday's game, Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts received an update on his injured left ankle. Tests revealed a small fracture in the talus bone of his ankle, it's an injury that led Boston to put him on the disabled list and rule him out for the next 10-to-14 days, though the injury isn't expected to keep him out beyond that timetable.
Even a brief absence is a blow for fantasy owners and Bogaerts given the hot start he got off to. Through nine games this season, Bogaerts crushed baseballs routinely to the tune of a .368/.400/.711 slash line, 213 wRC+, two home runs, nine RBIs and a 1.111 OPS. He started to make his name as an early MVP candidate and for fantasy owners, his elite production was delivering on all of the promise everyone knew he held.
In the absence of Bogaerts, Brock Holt and Tzu-Wei Lin are expected to split time at shortstop. Neither are players worth considering in any fantasy format and should be left to sit on the waiver wire.
