Miami Marlins outfielder Ichiro Suzuki became the 30th player in MLB history to reach the 3,000-hit plateau after posting a 1-for-4 outing against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. The hit came via a triple off Rockies reliever Chris Rusin.
Ichiro joins a club that last saw the soon-to-be retired Alex Rodriguez cross the threshold last June. In fact, the last three players that have reached 3,000 hits were at one time teammates with the New York Yankees, Derek Jeter being the other.
Despite his relatively advanced age (42), Ichiro is still proving himself to be more than capable at the plate. He's now hitting .317 with a .389 OBP and a ridiculous .354 BAbip on the season.
Though, Ichiro has been forced to play more of a platoon with the Marlins in 2016, taking over 80 percent of his at-bats against right-handed pitchers. Interestingly, his 3,000th hit came against a fellow lefty.
Here's the play that saw Ichiro break into one of the most-elite clubs in the baseball world.
