On rehab in the minors due to having multiple blisters on his throwing hand, San Francisco Giants starter Johnny Cueto was pulled from his start at Triple-A Sacramento on Monday night with another injury. Cueto, out since mid-July reportedly dealt with forearm tightness and had to be removed from the rehab start.
The 31-year-old veteran will undergo further tests, but this surely doesn't bode well for his ability to return to the Majors this season.
Common logic seems to suggest that Cueto was relying too much on his arm with these blisters still showing their impact. That most definitely wouldn't be a good sign for either the pitcher or the team.
Cueto is pitching to a substandard 4.59 ERA with a 1.41 WHIP while posting a 6-7 record in 19 starts for the Giants this season. He's likely to opt out of his contract to become a free agent this winter.
With Cueto sidelined, the Giants' five-man rotation will continue to consist of Madison Bumgarner, Jeff Samardzija, Matt Moore, Ty Blach and Matt Cain.
Following their loss to the Oakland Athletics on Monday, the Giants now boast the worst record in MLB. Needless to say, this team remains a fantasy black hole.
