Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco injured his hamstring Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks and had to be pulled from the game.
Pittsburgh didn't officially note Polanco's status on Monday, indicating simply that he was dealing with hamstring discomfort. This is bad news for a player in Polanco that struggled through the first month of the season, only to get it going here recently. Polanco hit just .247 with zero homers and four RBI in April. But over the past 10 games, he's posted a .333 average.
This comes on the heels of the veteran putting up 22 homers and 86 RBI last season.
We know hamstring injuries can linger, so expect the Pirates to take it easy with Polanco. It will be interesting to see the extent of the injury and whether the outfielder is placed on the DL.
