The Oakland Athletics will be without ace starting pitcher Sonny Gray for at least the next three weeks. The often-injured former All-Star will be shut down until at least opening day with a late strain in his upper arm.
Gray, 27, is coming off a disastrous 2016 campaign that saw him pitch to a 5-11 record with a 5.69 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 22 starts. He dealt with multiple injuries in the process, missing a good month-and-half to injury.
Despite this, Gray was expected to be the team's Opening Day starter. Remember, he put up a 2.73 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with the team back in 2015.
With Gray out at least through Openind Day, Sean Manaea and Kendall Graveman are the two likeliest options to lead the rotation until he returns.
