Acquired from the Chicago White Sox during the winter, Adam Eaton was having a tremendous first season with the Washington Nationals.
He entered the weekend having posted a .297 average with three homers, 12 RBI, three stolen bases and a solid .393 OBP. Unfortunately for Eaton and the Nationals, the veteran suffered a knee injury Saturday night against the New York Mets and had to be helped off the field.
The news didn't get any better on Saturday, as the Nationals confirmed Eaton suffered a torn ACL will and will miss the remainder of the season.
Losing their biggest off-season acquisition is a massive blow. And considering Eaton was off to a tremendous start to the season, this has wide-ranging fantasy implications as well.
Look for the Nats to use former top prospect Michael Taylor as a regular center fielder until they potentially look for a short-term replacement on either the free-agent or trade market.
