Latest Rumors in the AL West

As the winter meetings approach, trade rumors have continued throughout baseball.  While there hasn’t been much action in the AL West since last week,  there have been some trades made.

Oakland Athletics

The A’s picked up left-handed pitcher Fernando Abad from the Washington Nationals for minor league outfielder John Wooten.  Abad has been brought in to add some depth to the A’s bullpen next year.

The A’s are still rumored to have serious interest in Nelson Cruz, but no deal has been made. Cruz is also seeking a four year $75 million contract, which is out of the A’s price range.

Oakland is also continuing to try and reach a deal with Bartolo Colon to keep him in the green and gold another year.

Brett Anderson continues to be a trade piece for the A’s as the Toronto Blue Jays have now expressed interest.

Yoenis Cespedes and Jed Lowrie have also drawn interest from other teams, but they are incredibly important to this ball club and are likely to stay put.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

The Angels completed their trade with the Cardinals last week for David Freese which sent Peter Bourjos and minor league outfielder Randal Grichuk to St. Louis.  The Angels also received reliever Fernando Salas through this trade.

The Angels are still looking to add to their rotation and will need to require some starting pitching this offseason as they explore the free agent market as well as trades with other teams.

Mark Trumbo has also continued to draw a lot of interest from several teams around MLB.

Texas Rangers

Mitch Moreland has been in some trade talks as of late, although the Rangers have said they would like to keep him, now that they have Prince Fielder that may change.

They have also been in the conversation regarding a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays for ace David Price.

Other than that, not a lot of talks from Texas now, especially after the big Fielder trade.  However, they will make more moves as the offseason continues to revamp their roster.

Seattle Mariners

The Mariners continue to be in the discussion for Cruz as well as Carlos Beltran and Mike Napoli.  While the Mariners have shown interest in these players, the feeling isn’t exactly mutual.  These players will also require a lot of money.

Billy Butler is also a possibility for Seattle.

Houston Astros

The Astros signed pitcher Peter Moylan to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.  He was with the Los Angeles Dodgers last year.

There has been very little talks when it comes to the Astros, but Jason Castro may still be on the trade block.

As the offseason continues, the top three teams, A’s, Angels, and Rangers, will make the most moves.  The Angels and Rangers have changes to make, while the A’s will look to add to their roster and improve.
