Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Marco Estrada was claimed off waiver by an unknown team on Tuesday. This means that the Jays can either work out a trade with said team or pull Estrada back off waivers.
It's seemingly highly likely that a trade can potentially be worked out here. If that doesn't happen, the Jays cannot deal the soon-to-be free agent before he hits the open market after the season.
Estrada, 34, is pitching to a substandard 5-7 record with a 4.85 ERA and 1.40 WHIP on the season. That comes on the heels of the veteran earning his first All-Star appearance in 2016.
The issue here for teams attempting to acquire Estrada is that he's pitched horrendously away from home on the season. In 14 road starts, Estrada is pitching to a 2-5 record with an inflated with a 5.33 ERA. Playing under the final season of a two-year, $26 million deal, that type of performance is hard for a team to take on.
It will be interesting to see what happens on this front.
