After missing the first six weeks of the season, Detroit Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez made his debut for the team this past Friday. He responded by putting up four hits (two homers) in nine at-bats during the Tigers three-game weekend series against the Angels. 

It was somewhat of a surprise to see Martinez, who had been rehabbing down in the minors, jump out like that after not seeing a Major League pitcher in live-game action since last September.

Even then, Martinez himself didn't appear to be done. In Tuesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles, Martinez hit two more homers while reaching base safely four times. His second homer of the game came in the form of a grand slam. Despite the Tigers' extra-innings loss, this definitely bodes well for Martinez on the young season. 

He's now hitting .500 with four homers and eight RBI in just four games. 

This comes on the heels of the veteran posting a .307 average with 22 homers and 68 RBI last season. He's definitely someone to keep an eye on over the next several days.
