Short stop is very likely the smallest, and weakest position in free agency this winter. Desmond is definitely the top free agent at the position but in all likelihood when he signs a deal with a team it won’t be as a short stop because he is so atrocious defensively.
There isn’t a lot to like with this class and unless you decide to keep Desmond at short stop or sign an aging Ramirez. Those are the only players who are really going to give you any offensive support. Sure Stephen Drew hit 17 homeruns, but a large part of that was likely due to batting at Yankee Stadium, and he just barely batted above .200 with a .201 average.
None of these guys are even real defensive specialists which hurts there value even more, as if you are an average to below average hitter you need to be able to field with the best of them. Short stop is the main man of the infield so hopefully teams have some better players in their farm system because this list of players is not the answer.
