Rockies at Brewers

Christian Yelich gave the Milwaukee Brewers a scare when he left Sunday’s game with a sore lower back, but the reigning National League MVP isn’t expected to require a trip to the injured list. Yelich is listed as day-to-day for the Brewers, who open a 10-game homestand with the first of four against the Colorado Rockies on Monday.

Yelich is batting .353 with 14 home runs to lead a Milwaukee team that took two of three from the New York Mets over the weekend and finished its six-game road trip with a 2-4 mark. Mike Moustakas hit a two-run homer in Sunday’s 5-2 loss while starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez allowed two runs over five innings in his 2019 Brewers debut. Colorado has won 10 of its past 13 games following a 3-12 start but saw its three-game winning streak come to an end with Sunday’s 8-7 loss to Atlanta. Charlie Blackmon is batting .380 with eight runs scored, three homers and 10 RBIs during his 11-game hitting streak while Daniel Murphy homered for the second consecutive game in Sunday’s loss.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies LH Kyle Freeland (2-3, 4.23 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Zach Davies (2-0, 1.65)

Freeland is set to return to the rotation after missing one start due to a blister on his left middle finger. “Obviously I’m going to monitor it throughout my start,” Freeland told reporters. “But in the two side sessions I’ve had, it feels good. I tested it, throwing my bullpen at normal rate and everything held up.” The Denver native is 1-1 with a 1.50 ERA in two career starts versus Milwaukee, both at Coors Field.

Davies allowed two runs while throwing 103 pitches over 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision last Tuesday against St. Louis. The 26-year-old has posted a 19-to-10 strikeout-to-walk ratio over his first five starts covering 27 1/3 innings. Murphy is 2-for-14 against Davies, who is 1-1 with a 6.10 ERA in two career starts versus Colorado.

WALK-OFFS

1. Milwaukee is 13-0 when leading after seven innings.

2. Colorado SS Trevor Story is batting .358 during his career-long 16-game hitting streak.

3. Milwaukee 1B Jesus Aguilar has one hit in his last 25 at-bats and is hitless in his last 15 at-bats.
