Marlins at Padres

After finishing last in the league in runs in April and May, the Miami Marlins got off to a good start in June. The Marlins look to build off their offensive outburst when they visit the San Diego Padres on Sunday for the rubber match of their three-game series.

Miami used a five-run fourth inning Saturday to erase a two-run deficit and roll to a 9-3 victory - its fourth win in six contests. Garrett Cooper, Martin Prado and Miguel Rojas each recorded two hits and an RBI, with the latter extending his hitting streak to five games. Josh Naylor belted a two-run homer for San Diego, which registered only four hits as its four-game home winning streak came to an end. It was the first career blast for Naylor, who was a first-round pick of the Marlins in the 2015 draft but was shipped to the Padres in a seven-player deal the following year.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Trevor Richards (2-5, 3.82 ERA) vs. Padres LH Matt Strahm (2-4, 3.21)

Richards lost his first five decisions of the season but has won his last two, including one against San Francisco on Tuesday in which he allowed one run and two hits over a season-high seven innings. The 26-year-old native of Illinois has given up fewer than two runs in each of his last two turns and three of his five outings this month. Richards, who never has faced San Diego, is 0-2 with a 4.35 ERA in four road starts this year.

Strahm recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts against the Yankees in New York on Monday but suffered the loss after surrendering three runs on four hits - two homers - and three walks in six innings. It was the highest amount of runs allowed this year by the 27-year-old from North Dakota since his season debut April 1, when he yielded five over 2 2/3 frames in a setback versus Arizona. Strahm has made three career relief appearances against Miami, going 1-0 while five strikeouts in 4 1/3 scoreless innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Padres 1B Eric Hosmer is riding a 10-game hitting streak and hasn't gone multiple contests without a hit since a three-game stretch from April 14-16.

2. Cooper has recorded four two-hit performances in his last six contests while Rojas has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games.

3. San Diego recalled LHP Nick Margevicius, who yielded five runs over three innings en route to a loss Saturday, from Double-A Amarillo and optioned RHP Phil Maton to Triple-A El Paso while activating C Francisco Mejia (knee) from the 10-day injured list and sending him to the Chihuahuas.
