Giants at Mets

New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway called a team meeting after Tuesday's extra-inning loss to San Francisco and immediately began to point fingers -- at himself. Callaway's players responded by picking him up 24 hours later to put the Mets in position for a series win when they host the visiting Giants in the rubber match of a three-game set on Thursday afternoon.

Amed Rosario belted a three-run homer and Michael Conforto added a solo shot and two RBIs as New York halted a three-game slide with a 7-0 victory Wednesday. However, the victory was dulled when Robinson Cano, activated from the injured list earlier in the day, re-injured his quadriceps while running out a ground ball and had to exit the game. San Francisco's offense had come alive during the second half of its road trip, scoring at least six runs in four straight games for the first time since 2016 before absorbing its third 7-0 defeat since May 10. Joe Panik had a double among five hits for the Giants to extend his hitting streak to four entering the finale of the nine-game trek.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Shaun Anderson (1-1, 4.09 ERA) vs. Mets RH Zack Wheeler (5-3, 4.68)

Anderson ended a long streak of futility by San Francisco's rotation last time out, becoming the first starter to go seven innings since April 13 when he limited the Baltimore Orioles to two runs and five hits to earn his first major league victory. It was the first road start for the 24-year-old, who pitched five innings in each of his first three turns. Anderson has been hurt by allowing the opposition to hit .500 (5-for-10) with a pair of doubles with runners in scoring position and two outs.

Wheeler won his second straight start at Arizona on Friday, striking out nine while allowing four runs on seven hits, including a pair of home runs. It was the seventh time in nine outings that the 29-year-old has pitched at least seven innings, although he has been victimized by the long ball of late, surrendering six homers over his last four turns. Brandon Belt is 4-for-12 and Brandon Crawford 3-for-8 against Wheeler, who owns a 2-2 record and 3.03 ERA in six career starts against the Giants.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Mets have homered in 12 straight games at Citi Field, the longest streak since the stadium opened in 2009.

2. The Giants placed C Buster Posey on the injured list Wednesday and activated RH Trevor Gott.

3. New York designated OF Aaron Altherr for assignment to clear a roster spot for Cano's return.
