Rangers at Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox wasted another gem by ace Chris Sale as they continue to struggle on their homestand. They'll try to bounce back from a painful loss on an emotional night at Fenway Park when they continue a four-game set with the visiting Texas Rangers on Tuesday.
Hours after absorbing the news that franchise great David Ortiz was shot in an attack in the Dominican Republic, Boston carried a 2-1 lead into the ninth on Monday behind a dominant outing by Sale, who watched the bullpen cough it up and later allow the game-winner in the 11th as the club fell to 1-4 on the homestand. Danny Santana had four hits, two runs and one RBI to lead the way for the Rangers, who snapped a six-game losing streak against the Red Sox and won for the 18th time in their last 26 games overall. Boston third baseman Rafael Devers, who won the American League Player of the Month in May, was 0-for-5 in the opener and is hitless in 17 at-bats during the homestand. He and his teammates will try to muster up a little more support for Darwinzon Hernandez, who makes his first career start Tuesday opposite Ariel Jurado for Texas.

Jurado has posted three straight quality starts after primarily working out of the bullpen to begin the season. He is 2-0 with a 3.44 ERA during the solid three-game stretch, defeating Baltimore with six innings of three-run ball on Thursday. The 23-year-old from Panama will be facing the Red Sox for the first time.
Hernandez will be summoned from Double-A Portland for the second time this season. He appeared in just one game out of the bullpen in his first stint in the majors, tossing 2 1/3 scoreless frames against Detroit on April 23. The 22-year-old from Venezuela is 1-4 with a 5.13 ERA in 10 games (nine starts) for the Sea Dogs this year.

1. The Red Sox recalled LHP Bobby Poyner from Triple-A Pawtucket and optioned LHP Josh Taylor to Pawtucket.
2. Texas was 0-25 when trailing after eight innings prior to Monday's rally.
3. The third game of the series on Wednesday has been shifted three hours up to 4:05 p.m. ET as a courtesy to fans who want to watch Game 7 of the Stanley Cup that evening.
