Angels at Blue Jays

Justin Upton wasted no time at all making an impact for the Los Angeles Angels, who look to stay hot when they continue a four-game series at the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday. Upton, who returned from a toe injury to make his season debut Monday, homered in his first at-bat to help set the tone in the Angels' 10-5 win in the series opener.

Kole Calhoun, Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout also homered for Los Angeles, which has won six of its last nine and has a chance Tuesday to get to .500 for the first time since starting the year with an 8-8 mark. Rookie Cavan Biggio slugged a pair of home runs and drove in three to pace Toronto's attack Monday night. The 24-year-old is 8-for-19 with four home runs and seven RBIs during a five-game hitting streak for the Blue Jays, who lost outfielder Teoscar Hernandez to a sprained wrist in the opener. They'll likely press on without him Tuesday when they take on Los Angeles lefty Tyler Skaggs, who opposes right-hander Marcus Stroman for Toronto.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels LH Tyler Skaggs (5-6, 5.00 ERA) vs. Blue Jays RH Marcus Stroman (4-8, 3.18)

Skaggs allowed two runs in six innings to defeat Toronto on May 2, but he's since gone 2-4 with a 6.32 ERA in seven starts. He did manage a victory with five innings of three-run ball at Tampa Bay on Thursday. The 27-year-old is 3-2 with a 3.93 ERA in six career starts against the Blue Jays.

Stroman bounced back from a rocky start two turns ago by limiting Baltimore to one earned run in six innings Thursday. The former first-round pick was chased after a season-low 3 1/3 innings at Los Angeles on May 1, giving up five runs. Trout is 8-for-16 with three doubles in his career against Stroman.

WALK-OFFS

1. Trout's homer Monday night was his 20th, giving him eight straight seasons with at least that many.

2. Ohtani is 11-for-25 with three homers and eight RBIs over a six-game stretch.

3. Toronto activated David Phelps (Tommy John surgery) from the 60-day injured list and optioned fellow RHP Justin Shafer to Triple-A Buffalo.
