Brewers at Padres
The Milwaukee Brewers’ potent offense has taken an unexpected summer break over the past two games in sunny San Diego, scoring a total of one run in back-to-back losses. Milwaukee looks to avoid a series sweep Wednesday against the Padres, who have won three in row after losing six of their previous seven contests.
The Brewers were shut out for just the third time this season in Monday’s 2-0 loss and managed just four hits in Tuesday’s 4-1 defeat. Christian Yelich extended his hitting streak to 15 games, but the Brewers went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and fell for the fifth time in their last seven games. San Diego received a spark from two new arrivals in rookies Logan Allen (seven scoreless innings) and Francisco Mejia, who hit a two-run home run and could share playing time with regular catcher Austin Hedges. Manny Machado added an RBI double in the victory and is 15-for-30 with four homers and eight RBIs during his seven-game hitting streak.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Zach Davies (7-1, 2.60 ERA) vs. Padres LH Matt Strahm (2-6, 4.66)
Davies suffered his first loss of the season after giving up three runs over five innings against San Francisco last Friday. The 26-year-old dealt with shoulder injuries last season and finished with a 2-7 record in 13 starts but opened this season with a 1.38 ERA over his first six outings. Wil Myers is 1-for-8 with three strikeouts against Davies, who is 3-0 with a 2.16 ERA in four career starts versus San Diego.
Strahm returned from the injured list and received a rude greeting at Coors Field last Thursday, allowing six runs on seven hits over 3 1/3 innings in a 9-6 loss to Colorado. The 27-year-old native of North Dakota has given up a total of 18 hits over his last three starts across 13 2/3 innings. Strahm, who is making his first career start versus Milwaukee, missed 10 days at the start of the month with a left rib strain.
