Rockies at Dodgers

The Colorado Rockies are looking for their eighth win in 11 games when they open a three-game series against the host Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. The Rockies might be without star third baseman Nolan Arenado (left big toe), who left Thursday's 6-4, 10-inning win over Arizona on the same day standout shortstop Trevor Story (right thumb) was placed on the 10-day injured list.

Story was injured Wednesday and is expected to miss several weeks while Arenado aggravated a recent injury and will see how he feels Friday before it is decided whether or not he plays in the opener. The Rockies completed a three-game sweep of the Diamondbacks in style on Thursday by pushing across the tying run in the ninth inning and getting Chris Iannetta's decisive two-run single in the 10th to move a season-best six games above .500. The Dodgers hold a 10-game lead over the Rockies in the National League West and have won six of their last eight after notching a 9-8 triumph over San Francisco on Thursday. Austin Barnes, Kyle Garlick and Joc Pederson hit two-run homers as the Dodgers survived allowing four ninth-inning runs to the Giants.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH German Marquez (7-3, 4.57 ERA) vs. Dodgers RH Walker Buehler (7-1, 3.06)

Marquez has been shaky over his last three starts, allowing 19 runs and 22 hits in 17 innings during that stretch. The 24-year-old Marquez is fortunate to be 1-1 during the span as he beat San Diego in his last turn despite being roughed up for seven runs and 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings. Marquez is 2-1 with a 3.28 ERA in six career starts against the Dodgers and has enjoyed success against Cody Bellinger (2-for-17, one homer) and Justin Turner (2-for-14, one homer).

Buehler had his start pushed back a day for some extra rest, but he has been thriving by allowing fewer than two runs in six of his last seven outings. The 24-year-old has tossed seven scoreless innings in each of his past two starts, giving up two hits in a no-decision against the Chicago Cubs in his last turn and five in a win over the San Francisco Giants on June 9. Buehler defeated the Rockies on April 6, when he gave up one run and three hits over five innings, and is 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 11 career appearances (seven starts).

WALK-OFFS

1. Rockies RF Charlie Blackmon is 26-for-52 with seven homers and 16 RBIs during a 10-game hitting streak.
