Giants at Diamondbacks

Things have not been going well for the Arizona Diamondbacks of late, and they may have gotten even worse. Arizona could be without the red-hot Ketel Marte when it attempts to end their five-game losing streak Saturday in the middle contest of a three-game series against the visiting San Francisco Giants.

The Diamondbacks fell to 0-4 on their nine-game homestand with Friday's 11-5 setback, but they lost more than a game as Marte left the contest with a groin injury suffered while running to first base on an RBI single in the third inning. The 25-year-old Dominican second baseman/center fielder, who is day-to-day, went 2-for-2 before exiting - giving him a streak of six consecutive games with multi-hit performances during which he has gone 17-for-25 with three homers and four RBIs. San Francisco halted its three-game slide on Friday thanks to Kevin Pillar and Alex Dickerson, who combined to go 5-for-9 with two homers and 10 RBIs. Dickerson, who was acquired from San Diego earlier this month, belted a grand slam, had a career-best six RBIs and finished a double shy of the cycle in his team debut after being recalled from the minors earlier in the day.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Tyler Beede (1-2, 6.67 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Zack Godley (3-4, 6.52)

Beede is coming off his first career victory, a triumph over the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Monday in which he allowed one run and three hits over six innings. The 26-year-old native of Massachusetts registered seven strikeouts but struggled with his control, issuing five walks. Beede made his major-league debut against Arizona on April 10, 2018, when he started and gave up two runs on three hits and five walks over four frames.

Godley will be making his ninth start of the year but first since May 18 when he yielded four runs and six hits over 3 1/3 innings in a loss to the Giants. The 29-year-old from South Carolina's next appearance came in San Francisco six days later and was significantly better as he allowed two hits in three scoreless frames of relief. Godley, who has come out of the bullpen seven times since his last turn in the rotation, is 3-4 with a 6.52 ERA in 10 career games (seven starts) versus the Giants.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Giants' offensive output in the series opener eclipsed the amount of runs they totaled during their three-game slide (10).

2. San Francisco placed OF Steven Duggar (back) on the 10-day injured list, recalled Dickerson from Triple-A Sacramento, transferred RHP Nick Vincent (chest) to the 60-day IL and claimed OF Joey Rickard, who was optioned to the River Cats, off waivers from Baltimore.

3. Arizona signed 2B Carlos Asuaje, who spent parts of the previous three seasons with San Diego, to a minor-league contract.
