Rockies at Giants

The Colorado Rockies got off to a great start on their nine-game road trip before stalling, but they got back on the right track in the opener of their series against the San Francisco Giants. Colorado looks to continue going in the right direction when they visit San Francisco on Tuesday for the middle contest of their three-game set.

The Rockies outscored Arizona 20-9 while sweeping their three-game series in the desert but were unable to continue the momentum in Los Angeles as they were victims of a three-game sweep by the majors' top team. Colorado halted the skid on Monday, when David Dahl belted a two-run homer while Jon Gray combined with three relievers on a six-hit shutout. Joe Panik recorded two of the six hits registered in the loss by San Francisco, which returned home following a 3-4 road trip. Alex Dickerson singled on Monday but has gone 1-for-6 in his last two games after going 5-for-9 with two doubles, a triple, a homer and nine RBIs over his first two contests with the Giants.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Chi Chi Gonzalez (2016: 0-2, 8.71 ERA) vs. Giants LH Madison Bumgarner (3-7, 4.28)

Gonzalez will be making his first major-league appearance since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2017. The 27-year-old Floridian last pitched in the majors for Texas on July 7, 2016, when he yielded four runs on nine hits and five walks over 4 2/3 innings in a loss to Minnesota. Gonzalez has made 14 starts for Triple-A Albuquerque this year, going 4-5 with a 5.66 ERA.

Bumgarner lost his third straight decision on Thursday, when he surrendered six runs and 10 hits over 3 2/3 innings against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. It was the shortest outing of the season for the 29-year-old native of North Carolina, who last won on May 18 at Arizona. Bumgarner is 15-8 with two complete games, one shutout and a 3.07 ERA in 32 career starts against Colorado after winning both of his previous turns earlier this season.

WALK-OFFS

1. Dahl has homered in back-to-back contests following a seven-game drought.

2. San Francisco SS Brandon Crawford was kept out of Monday's starting lineup due to tightness in his hamstring.

3. Colorado sent LHP Harrison Musgrave (elbow), who is on the 60-day injured list, to Albuquerque for a rehab assignment.
