Diamondbacks at Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals hope to have veteran right-hander Adam Wainwright on the mound when they host the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday in the rubber match of a three-game series. Wainwright was scratched from his scheduled start in Friday's series opener due to a back issue but is expected to be well enough to try to pitch the Cardinals to the series win.
The Diamondbacks counter with ace Zack Greinke in this matchup of veteran hurlers with a combined 734 career starts to their credit. Wainwright hopes to find success against an Arizona lineup that produced just four hits in Saturday's 4-2 loss. Tyler O'Neill provided all the offense St. Louis needed with a two-run homer and a two-run double as the Cardinals snapped a four-game slide at home. Eduardo Escobar slugged a solo homer Saturday for Arizona, which saw its four-game winning streak come to an end.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks RH Zack Greinke (10-3, 2.73 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Adam Wainwright (5-7, 4.31)
Greinke surged into the break by posting seven scoreless innings in each of his last two starts, recording 15 strikeouts with zero walks along the way. The 35-year-old All-Star has 22 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings on the road and owns a 2.47 ERA away from home this year. He is 13-5 in his career against the Cardinals but has had some issues with Matt Carpenter, who is 10-for-29 with a pair of homers versus Greinke.
Wainwright is 0-2 over his last four starts, although he's held opponents to three runs or fewer each time. The 37-year-old is 4-2 with a 2.68 ERA in eight home starts in 2019. He is 8-5 with a 2.95 ERA in his career against the Diamondbacks.

2. Carpenter has struck out six times in nine at-bats during the series.
