Orioles at Angels
Following a wild series opener that spilled into the early morning hours, the Los Angeles Angels continue their four-game set against the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Friday. Jonathan Villar delivered a two-run homer with two outs in the 16th inning to give the Orioles a 10-8 victory on Thursday in a game that lasted 6 hours, 18 minutes.
Hanser Alberto and Pedro Severino recorded four hits apiece while Villar recorded three stolen bases for Baltimore, which scored three runs in the top of the 15th inning before the Angels tied the game in the bottom half on a bases-loaded walk and Mike Trout’s two-run double. Outfielder Stevie Wilkerson recorded the save with a scoreless 16th inning for the Orioles, who improved to 11-11 over their last 22 games. The Angels saw their four-game winning streak come to an end after using 10 different pitchers for the second time in franchise history. Brian Goodwin forced extra innings with a solo homer in the ninth after Kole Calhoun gave the Angels a brief 4-2 lead in the seventh with a three-run double.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Asher Wojciechowski (1-3, 3.91 ERA) vs. TBA
Wojciechowski turned in a dominant outing in Sunday’s 5-0 win over Boston, registering 10 strikeouts while allowing one hit in 7 1/3 scoreless innings. “That was the best outing I’ve ever had in the big leagues,” Wojciechowski told reporters. “It’s something to enjoy, also to look back, build upon and look at as a springboard.” The 30-year-old native of South Carolina had allowed at least three runs in three of his four starts this season before taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning against the Red Sox.
Griffin Canning likely will have his scheduled start moved back after the 23-year-old rookie entered Thursday’s contest in the 15th inning and took the loss after allowing five runs over two frames while throwing 42 pitches. The 23-year-old Californian gave up two runs with six strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision versus Seattle on Saturday.
