Orioles at Padres

Manny Machado looks for one last solid performance against his former team this season when the San Diego Padres conclude their two-game series against the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday afternoon. Machado recorded three hits and scored twice in Monday's 8-1 victory and is 6-for-12 with a homer and two walks in four games against the organization for which he played from 2012-18.

Eric Hosmer homered twice and drove in five runs for San Diego on Monday after recording only four RBIs without a blast this month prior to the big effort. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Franmil Reyes went deep on the first two pitches of the first inning while Luis Urias also homered as the Padres won for just the fifth time in 16 contests. Baltimore has suffered back-to-back losses after winning seven of its previous 10 games. Jonathan Villar recorded two hits for his fifth straight multi-hit performance and is 12-for-23 with two homers, 10 runs, five RBIs and five stolen bases during that stretch.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Tom Eshelman (0-2, 5.79 ERA) vs. Padres RH Dinelson Lamet (0-2, 5.00)

Eshelman will be making his fourth major-league start and fifth overall appearance. The 25-year-old, who hails from the San Diego suburb of Carlsbad, was undrafted out of high school before playing at Cal State Fullerton and was selected by Houston in the second round of the 2015 draft. Eshelman, who was acquired from Philadelphia in June, has served up five homers in just 18 2/3 innings in the majors.

Lamet is winless in four starts since returning from Tommy John surgery that caused him to miss the entire 2018 campaign. The 27-year-old allowed two runs and four hits while registering six strikeouts over four innings in a no-decision against the New York Mets on Wednesday. Dinelson has fanned 25 batters in 18 frames this season, recording seven strikeouts over five frames on two occasions.

WALK-OFFS

1. Orioles LF Dwight Smith Jr. (calf) was injured while running out a pinch-hit single on Monday and could be headed to the 10-day injured list.

2. The Padres have outscored the Orioles 26-9 in their first three meetings.

3. Baltimore 1B Chris Davis struck out as a pinch-hitter in the series opener and is 0-for-13 with 11 strikeouts during the team's nine-game road trip that concludes on Tuesday.
