Dodgers at Rockies

The Colorado Rockies are trying to remain in the National League wild-card race as they attempt to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday for the second straight night. Colorado rolled to a 9-1 victory over the Dodgers in the opener of the three-game series and sits seven games out of the second wild-card spot due to its recent slump.

The Rockies collected 11 hits on Monday while winning for only the sixth time in 24 contests. All-Star David Dahl recorded a homer and three RBIs while Ian Desmond reached base four times on three hits and a walk as Colorado improved to 3-8 against the Dodgers this season. Los Angeles has been outscored 20-5 while losing back-to-back contests and has dropped four of its last six. Cody Bellinger notched two of the Dodgers' four hits on Monday but failed to homer for the 10th consecutive game.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers LH Julio Urias (4-2, 2.34 ERA) vs. Rockies LH Kyle Freeland (2-8, 7.00)

Urias will be making his sixth start of the season and is well-rested as his most recent appearance came on July 23, when he worked 1 2/3 innings. The 22-year-old, who is 0-1 with a 6.22 ERA in five career appearances (three starts) against Colorado, hasn't pitched more than three frames since April 18. Tony Gonsolin (0-1, 9.00) is expected to be recalled on Tuesday and work some innings after yielding six runs - four earned - and six hits over four frames against Arizona on June 26 in his major-league debut.

Freeland is 0-2 in three starts since returning from the minor leagues, but the club was encouraged by his effort in a loss to Washington on Wednesday. The 26-year-old native of Denver gave up one unearned run and four hits over six innings in the setback after allowing 10 runs and 15 hits over eight frames in his previous two outings. Freeland hasn't faced the Dodgers this season but is 2-3 with a 3.40 ERA in eight career turns despite being pounded by Justin Turner (12-for-23).

WALK-OFFS

1. Dodgers INF Max Muncy is 3-for-19 without a home run over his last six games.

2. Colorado RF Charlie Blackmon (back) was held out of the series opener after being injured while lifting weights after Sunday's contest in Cincinnati.

3. Los Angeles placed INF Enrique Hernandez (hand) on the 10-day injured list, optioned Jaime Schultz to Triple-A Oklahoma City, recalled fellow RHP Josh Sborz from the same affiliate, activated recently acquired INF Kristopher Negron and traded LHP Zac Rosscup to St. Louis for cash considerations.
