Phillies at Diamondbacks

Philadelphia's Scott Kingery made sure his Chase Field homecoming 2.0 went better than his first as the Phillies continue their three-game series against the host Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Kingery, who hails from Phoenix, went hitless over five at-bats in two games in the desert as a rookie last season before going 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Monday's 7-3 victory.

Kingery's versatility - he's started at second base, shortstop, left field, center field and most recently third base following the demotion of Maikel Franco - has helped Philadelphia (59-53) stay in position for a National League wild card as it remains tied with Washington for the two spots. Arizona (56-57), which seemed to wave the white flag when it dealt Zack Greinke to Houston just prior to Wednesday's trade deadline, fell 3 1/2 games behind the Phillies and Nationals. Philadelphia rookie outfielder Adam Haseley continues to validate his quick rise through the minors and promotion to the big club by going 2-for-5 with two runs scored on Monday for his fourth multi-hit effort in nine contests and making a big catch in the seventh inning to preserve a three-run lead. Jake Arrieta continues to pitch with a bone spur in his right elbow as he takes the mound for the Phillies opposite Mike Leake, who makes his first start for the Diamondbacks since being acquired from Seattle at the trade deadline.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Jake Arrieta (8-8, 4.44 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Mike Leake (9-8, 4.27)

Arrieta settled for a no-decision after allowing two runs - one earned - and four hits with five strikeouts in four innings of Philadelphia's 10-2 victory over San Francisco on Thursday. The 33-year-old native of Missouri is 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA in his last five turns, with the Phillies winning his three no-decisions in that span. Jake Lamb is 7-for-15 with two doubles and three RBIs versus Arrieta, who is 5-3 with a 2.43 ERA in 10 starts against the Diamondbacks after a 7-4 victory on June 11 in which he yielded three runs in six innings.

Leake last started on July 30, when he escaped with a no-decision after permitting five runs - three earned - and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings of the Mariners' 8-5 victory at Texas. The 31-year-old Californian joins his fifth team after going 102-95 with a 4.04 ERA in 291 games (286 starts) with Cincinnati, San Francisco, St. Louis and Seattle. Bryce Harper is 3-for-18 with two home runs against Leake, who is 3-3 with a 5.50 ERA in 11 starts against the Phillies but hasn't faced them since 2017.
