Diamondbacks at Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers are trying to stay in the race for the second National League wild card at the expense of another team in the race and knocked off the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-1 on Friday. The Brewers will try to make it two in a row over the Diamondbacks and three straight overall when they host the second of a three-game series on Saturday.

Milwaukee is in the midst of a stretch with 25 straight games against teams in contention in their respective leagues and improved to 4-5 in that stretch when Jordan Lyles tossed six no-hit innings and the bullpen held on for a two-hitter in Friday's victory. The win moved Milwaukee within three games of the Cubs for the second wild card, and the Brewers are scheduled to face Chicago seven times over the next two weeks. The Diamondbacks fell 5 1/2 games behind the Cubs with Friday's setback and dropped six of their last nine to fall a game under .500 (64-65). Arizona will try to pick itself up behind promising rookie Zac Gallen on Saturday while the Brewers look for a quality start from veteran righty Chase Anderson.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks RH Zac Gallen (2-3, 2.45 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Chase Anderson (5-3, 4.54)

Gallen came over from the Miami Marlins at the trade deadline and was solid in his first three starts for Arizona, allowing a total of three runs in 15 innings. The 24-year-old issued six walks in as many innings against Colorado on Monday but limited the damage to one run and did not factor in the decision. Gallen, who has yet to surrender a home run in a Diamondbacks uniform, is facing Milwaukee for the first time.

Anderson is trying to bounce back after getting hammered for a career-worst 10 runs on nine hits - three homers - in 2 1/3 innings at Washington on Sunday. The 31-year-old allowed three or fewer runs in each of his previous 10 starts but completed at least six innings once in that span. Anderson is seeing Arizona - the team he pitched for in 2014-15 - for the first time since May 21, 2018, when he scattered two runs and three hits over six innings to earn a win.

WALK-OFFS

1. Diamondbacks LHP Robbie Ray (back) threw a bullpen session on Friday and could come off the IL to start Sunday's series finale.

2. Milwaukee 3B Mike Moustakas recorded 13 RBIs in his last five games.

3. Arizona 3B Jake Lamb is 2-for-20 over his last eight contests.
