Yankees at Mariners

The New York Yankees have slugged their way to a major-league record and look to expand it when they visit the Seattle Mariners on Monday for the opener of a three-game series. New York went deep three times in Sunday's 5-1 road win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, giving it 61 homers in August - the most in a calendar month in league history.

DJ LeMahieu belted the record-setting 59th shot in the first inning while Aaron Judge and Mike Ford also homered later in the contest for the Yankees, who took two of three from major league-leading Los Angeles after being swept by Oakland to begin their nine-game road trip. Judge has gone deep in three straight contests, leaving him one blast shy of 100 for his career, and is 7-for-16 during his four-game hitting streak. Seattle has won four straight series and six of eight contests after posting a 3-1 victory over Toronto on Sunday in the rubber match of their three-game set. Kyle Seager recorded a run-scoring double in the win, giving him nine RBIs during his five-game streak and 23 in 20 contests this month.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees LH J.A. Happ (10-8, 5.58 ERA) vs. Mariners LH Tommy Milone (3-7, 4.84)

Happ is coming off a loss at Oakland on Wednesday in which he yielded five runs on four hits, two walks and a hit batsman over four innings. The 36-year-old native of Illinois has not won consecutive decisions since capturing six in a row from May 9-June 18, a stretch that began with a home triumph over Seattle in which he gave up one hit over five scoreless frames. With that victory, Happ improved to 5-2 with a 4.46 ERA in eight career starts versus the Mariners.

Milone will continue his trend of following an "opener" as he goes after his first three-game win streak since 2016. The 32-year-old Californian recorded the victory in each of his previous two outings, including a five-inning effort at Tampa Bay on Tuesday in which he permitted four runs and six hits. Milone has yet to defeat the Yankees in his career, going 0-2 with a 2.70 ERA in four starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. Yankees SS Didi Gregorius left Sunday's game with a right shoulder contusion after being hit by a pitch and is day-to-day after undergoing X-rays, which were negative.

2. Seattle SS J.P. Crawford has gone 10-for-24 and scored nine runs during his six-game hitting streak.

3. New York OF Mike Tauchman has hit safely in six of his last seven contests and gone 6-for-17 over five games during the team's road trip.
