Dodgers at Padres
The Los Angeles Dodgers broke out of their offensive slumber and aim to follow it up with more production when they visit the San Diego Padres on Wednesday for the finale of their three-game series. The Dodgers had scored just 13 runs over a six-game stretch before racking up 14 hits while routing the Padres 9-0 on Tuesday.
Joc Pederson and A.J. Pollock (3-for-5) hit solo homers while Enrique Hernandez, Corey Seager and Will Smith each drove in two runs as Los Angeles recovered from Monday's series-opening 4-3 setback. The victory allowed the Dodgers, who are 40 games above .500, to remain tied with the New York Yankees (87-47) for best record in the majors. San Diego recorded just five hits on Tuesday and has lost five of its last seven games. Manny Machado is 1-for-6 in the series against the Dodgers - a former club - and stands 15-for-58 with four homers and 11 RBIs against Los Angeles this season.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers RH Kenta Maeda (8-8, 4.13 ERA) vs. Padres RH Trey Wingenter (1-3, 4.60)
Maeda registered nine strikeouts in six innings against Toronto in his last turn but did not factor in the decision despite allowing two runs and four hits. The 31-year-old from Japan was roughed up in a no-decision against the Padres on August 4, when he gave up five runs and five hits over 2 2/3 innings. Maeda is 1-1 with a 4.70 ERA and 0.87 WHIP in four starts versus San Diego this season and 6-4 with a 4.48 ERA in 17 career contests (15 starts) against the club.
The Padres are going with a "bullpen day" and Wingenter was tabbed as the "opener" for his first start after 68 career relief appearances, including 46 this season. The 25-year-old Auburn product has allowed just 30 hits in 45 innings and has struck out 63 against 24 walks. Matt Strahm (5-8, 4.96), who has strung together seven straight scoreless appearances, is likely to pitch at some point in the contest.
WALK-OFFS
1. Dodgers 3B Justin Turner, who didn't play Tuesday, received a one-game suspension after making contact with home-plate umpire Rob Drake when he was called out on strikes to end Monday's game but filed an appeal.
2. San Diego LF Wil Myers, who is 2-for-19 over his last nine appearances, is just 3-for-25 with 12 strikeouts against Maeda.
3. Los Angeles' Russell Martin, who pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Tuesday, was activated from the bereavement list and Austin Barnes will serve a short stint at Triple-A Oklahoma City before returning Sunday when rosters expand.
