Marlins' pen outlasts Mets' in walk-off win in 11th

Pinch hitter Bryan Holaday pulled a walk-off, RBI double down the third base line in the 11th inning as the host Miami Marlins defeated the New York Mets 4-3 on Saturday night.

Seven Marlins relievers -- including winner Javy Guerra (1-0) -- combined to pitch 6 1/3 scoreless innings.

Mets rookie reliever Jacob Rhame (0-2) took the loss, allowing a leadoff single by Miguel Rojas, a Magneuris Sierra sacrifice bunt and then Holaday's double on a 1-1 slider.

Todd Frazier led New York with a double and three RBIs.

Martin Prado was Miami's top offensive player, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Neither starting pitcher earned a decision. New York rookie Corey Oswalt allowed three runs in six innings for his second consecutive quality start. He walked one and struck out three.

Miami starter Dan Straily lasted just 4 2/3 innings, allowing four hits, four walks and three runs. He struck out five.

The Mets opened the scoring by getting all three of their runs in the fourth, which could all be chalked up to the proverbial game of inches.

Wilmer Flores pulled a double to left on a ball that nearly went over the fence. Left fielder Rafael Ortega had the ball in his glove, but it came loose when he crashed into the fence.

The Mets then loaded the bases with consecutive walks to Michael Conforto and Brandon Nimmo, with the latter getting on base on a 3-2 pitch that might have been a strike, judging by Straily's angry reaction.

Then, on a 1-2 pitch, Frazier reached to pull an outside changeup down the third base line, scoring all three runs. Frazier's double just got past diving third baseman Prado.

Miami cut its deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth. Starlin Castro started the rally with a chopper that he beat out for an infield single. After the Mets failed to turn a double play on a comebacker, Derek Dietrich doubled, and Prado followed by slapping a two-run, opposite-field single past a diving Flores at first.

Miami tied the score 3-3 in the fifth. Sierra started the rally with a bunt single. He advanced on a walk to Ortega and scored on J.T. Realmuto's two-out single.
