Anderson Silva: Brazilian Champions, Including Myself, Never Evolved

Former longtime UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva believes that the reason many Brazilian champions are no longer wearing UFC gold is because their game became too one-dimensional.

At a press conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Tuesday, “The Spider” answered candidly on why American fighters are currently dominating the UFC title picture, per MMA Fighting.

"It’s natural. Brazilians forgot some things to focus more on other things. We forgot the evolution," Silva said.

"It’s important. I speak for myself. In my last two fights, I should have evolved more, but I didn’t follow this evolution."

Silva suffered two losses to current middleweight champion Chris Weidman in 2013, suffering the first knockout loss of his career against the New York native at UFC 162 in July.

Additionally, seemingly unstoppable bantamweight titleholder Renan Barao was decimated by American upstart T.J. Dillashaw at UFC 173 in May.

Dillashaw was an incredible 8-to-1 underdog, understandably so given his Brazilian counterparts stunning 33-fight unbeaten streak heading into the contest.

However, Brazil has a chance to take over the title scene again in the upcoming months, as Fabricio Werdum challenges Cain Velasquez for the heavyweight strap at UFC 180 in November and Vitor Belfort fights Weidman at a yet to be determined event in February.
