Ex-Coach: Despite Being Less Muscular, Vitor Belfort is Strong as Ever Without TRT

While 37-year-old Vitor Belfort is starting to look his age after coming off of testosterone replacement therapy eight months ago, one of his former coaches says he certainly still didn’t act like it during training sessions.

Kenny Monday, the former wrestling coach for Boca Raton, Florida’s Blackzilian camp, told ESPN that “The Phenom” is training just as hard as ever and has the tools to defeat middleweight champ Chris Weidman next year.

"From my point of view, Vitor was and still is the hardest working guy in the gym. I worked with him after he got off the TRT and his strength level didn't change. He was very strong,” Monday said.

“He's still a strong guy. His physique did change quite a bit, but I think that was water retention. The strength level was the same.... I thought then, and I still think now, that he'll win. I know he's a better boxer than Weidman. I know that for a fact."

Belfort was originally scheduled to meet Weidman at UFC 173 in May, but withdrew from the fight shortly after the Nevada State Athletic Commission banned TRT in February.

The Brazilian slugger won three fights via headkick knockout last year, most recently becoming the first fighter to knockout Dan Henderson at UFC Fight Night 32 in November.

The former UFC light heavyweight titleholder was set to meet Weidman at UFC 181 in December, but the matchup again suffered a setback when the champ broke his hand in training.

Will Belfort still be able to set the pace early and impose his will on Weidman or will “The All-American” prove too much to handle for the heavy-handed striker?
