Perennial UFC middleweight contender Michael Bisping may have seen his best days in the Octagon come and go, but that didn’t stop him for asking to fight the legendary Anderson Silva when he returns.
After Ed Soares, Silva’s manager, spoke on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour – naming Bisping, Nick Diaz or Cung Le as his star client’s possible comeback fight, “The Count” wasted little time in chiming in.
Bisping is a paltry 2-3 in his past five fights and is 0-3 in title eliminator matchups since July 2009.
Nevertheless, the fact that he is English and capable of hyping a fight with basically anyone on the UFC roster makes him a relevant commodity – for the time being at least.
The season 3 winner of The Ultimate Fighter last competed at the TUF Nations Finale in April, where he was soundly outwrestled by two-time Strikeforce title challenger Tim Kennedy.
Bisping is matched up with Le for UFC Fight Night 48 on August 23, so based on Soares’ recent comments; it is feasible the winner of that matchup could welcome “The Spider” back to the cage.
Silva has been out of action since suffering his second straight loss to UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman at UFC 168 in December.
Early in the second round, Weidman checked a leg kick and Silva shattered his fibula and tibia in the process, resulting in an injury TKO.
Despite the gruesome injury, Silva has resumed training for a couple of months now and is aiming to come back late this year or early in 2015.
