UFC on FOX 13 Results: Junior dos Santos Defeats Stipe Miocic in Five-Round Classic

Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos scored a narrow decision victory over surging contender Stipe Micocic at UFC on FOX 13 in what was a five-round bloody war that fans generally regarded as an instant classic that is a late contender for 2014's "Fight of the Year."

JDS and Miocic both sported heavy crimson masks after slinging leather for just a few minutes, as both heavy-handed sluggers connected with big shots over and over, with each man refusing to give in despite an insane amount of damage being dealt out on each end.

Prior to the start of the fifth and final round, the Phoenix, Arizona crowd gave the top 5 heavyweights a well-deserved standing ovation for their efforts.

While the fifth round was close, "Cigano" was awarded the final frame on all three judges scorecards and won via a unanimous decision by scores of 48-47 and 49-46 (twice), though fighters, fans and analysts alike found it unfathomable that anyone gave dos Santos four out of the five rounds in the hard-fought contest.

While several fighters felt that Miocic had done enough to pull off the upset, all three judges saw otherwise.

Although dos Santos is now 2-2 in his past four fights, his losses came against current heavyweight titleholder Cain Velasquez and he looked impressive in his victories over Mark Hunt and Miocic.

The loss snaps a three-fight win streak for Miocic, who entered the matchup at the No. 4 heavyweight in the world. Given his gritty, skillful performance, it's highly unlikely he slips in the rankings as a result of the close defeat.
