As the San Antonio Spurs gear up for their season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday, they'll do it without the services of Kawhi Leonard. On Tuesday, the team announced Leonard would miss Wednesday's game due to a right quad injury.

Leonard's absence will be felt against a Timberwolves unit that many expect to have a breakout season. But of greater concern than Wednesday's game is Leonard's uncertain availability for the near future. He missed the entire preseason as he worked his way back from a right quadriceps tendinopathy and has yet to return to a full practice and run through drills. Until he returns, Rudy Gay and Kyle Anderson will pick up more minutes.
